Nonprofits, foundations, and religious organizations are excluded entirely.

Operate in the US

Must be doing business in the US or its territories. Foreign business operations don't qualify.

US citizen or LPR

As of March 2026, majority owner must be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Meet SBA size standards

Revenue under $8M–$47M (varies by industry) or under 500–1,500 employees for manufacturers.

Owner equity required

You can't be 100% debt-financed. Lenders need to see owner skin in the game.

Not in excluded industries
